Sutton United 2 - 0 Longbridge Ladies

Longbridge Ladies' winning streak came to an end on Saturday against Sutton United. With Longbridge only having 10 players as defender Lucee Firth was unavailable, they give Sutton a tough match. Longbridge were under pressure early in the first half as Sutton were able to play the long balls over the top of the defence. Sutton then went ahead in the game from a questionable free-kick. Soon after they doubled their lead after an attempted cross flew over the keepers head. The second half of the match belonged to Longbridge. They played their best football this season both going forward and defending. Unfortunately they couldn't put away the chances they had. After a good second half performance, Longbridge will be looking to take that momentum into their next league match on Saturday 1st October against Woodlands at Rubery Community Leisure Centre.  For all league/cup fixtures and results go to http://www.cwgfl.com/

England Women 4 - 0 Slovenia Women | Euro 2013 Qualifier

After the England ladies drew away to Serbia on Saturday they came back with an outstanding and dominant performance tonight against Slovenia. It only took Rachel Yankey 52 seconds before she scored her second in as many games after she fired a shot past the Slovenia keeper from a short corner. Ellen White soon doubled England's lead after she headed home Karen Carney's superb cross. With England 2-0 up within the first 5 minutes, they looked very comfortable and started playing some quality football. Another chance for Yankey after she broke away from a poor Slovenia corner but she got brought down just yards from the box which resulted in the games first yellow card for Slovenia. As the game was approaching half time England had another great opportunity. A great run inside from Alex Scott who managed to find the brilliant run made by Fara Williams which resulted in Ellen White's shot being blocked off the line. Towards the end of the half Slovenia managed to tighten up their midfield and back line which made things a little harder for England going forward. Within 5 minutes of the second half Everton's Fara Williams, who kept control in the midfield for England, struck a great free kick which was well held by the keeper. Not long after England were 3-0 up. Yankey made one of her trademark runs down the left hand side and whipped in a great ball which was met by a bullet of a header from Steph Houghton. With England's confidence growing, Rachel Unitt fancied her chances from long range when she saw the Slovenia keeper off her line but she managed to get back and collect the ball. Rachel Yankey was then replaced by Birmingham City striker Rachel Williams who soon showed the fans why she's the WSL top goal scorer. After Williams won the ball in the air it looked as if it was going out for a goal kick but great determination shown by Jess Clarke kept the ball in and Williams put it away from 6 yards out. A great performance by England and a well deserved 3 points to show for it.

Serbia Women 2 - 2 England Woman | Euro 2013 Qualifier

The England Women's National Team travelled to Belgrade, Serbia for the first of their Euro 2013 qualifiers. Hope Powell put out a new look team with the experienced Fara Williams and Alex Scott on the bench. England took  the lead after 6 minutes through a Rachel Yankey goal. The England ladies then doubled their lead on the 19th minute mark after Karen Carney's free kick was turned into the net by a Serbia player. Just before the half way mark Everton's Natasha Dowie hit the underside of the bar. The second half saw Birmingham City stricker and the FA WSL's top scorer Rachel Williams replace Natasha Dowie. Mid way through the second half Serbia got a goal back through Danka Podovac's 25 yard free-kick. Rachel Williams then had a great chance for England but her header from Karen Carney's free-kick went just over the cross bar. In the fourth minute of added time Serbia were able to level the score with a Vesna Smiljkovic shot from the edge of the area which went past Rachel Brown in the England goal. The game finished 2 a piece and England will be looking for a win on Thursday night in Swindon against Slovenia.

In the second half Solihull fought hard and got a goal back to level the score. Longbridge's own pacey Forward Emma Tidman got brought down in the box which won a penalty for her team.
